I recently re-tiled my bathroom floor and subsequently attempted to reinstall the toilet.

Upon flushing, the tank will empty, the bowl will fill, the siphon jet appears to be operational, yet the bowl will not empty the solids at all. Prior to removing the toilet, there was no problem. Drainage appears to be fine as I can dump in a bucket of water and I can hear it emptying.

I am using a fluid master reinforced wax ring

There is a chance that the was ring was not installed properly. Make sure it is not squeezed into the drain opening. Also, make sure you have full tank of water and that your flopper stays in UPward position long enough to allow required amount of water out from the tank. Thirdly, I would use 5' auger and preventively snaked the bowl.

A couple of things:

-This is the second wax ring I have installed. When I removed the toilet the second time, there was no obstruction of the drain by the wax.

-The wax ring protrudes about 3/8 to 1/2 inch below the base. Is it possible that there is simply too much wax?

-I held the flush lever down until all the water drained and it still does the same thing.

-Would it be better to place the wax ring on the pipe flange instead of the bottom of the toilet, to make sure it is seated properly?

-when I pour a bucket of water down, that volume of water clears, but the toilet does not exhibit a typical evacuation flush one would expect.

Is it possible debris wound up in the toilet during renovation? If so, some might be blocking the toilet siphon in a way that liquid passes but solids have trouble.

Also check that 1" hole that starts the siphon, stick your finger in there and make sure its clear. Use a robber glove if you need to.

The symptoms you are describing tell me that there may be clog within the bowl itself causing passive flushing action. Since you rechecked the wax ring installation, I would suggest that you proceed with snaking the bowl with 5' auger... See pics...

While possible you would knock it loose if you use the toilet auger Milo has suggested. I found the lid to a frozen orange juice can once.

I have one extra wax ring, so I am going to try that first (since I don't have an auger on hand right now) to make absolutely sure that I am not creating a blockage. With that said, what is a normal amount that the undeformed wax ring should extend beyond the base? Could it be that I am starting with too thick a ring? It is not oozing out the sides when the toilet is fully seated.

If that doesn't work, then I will move on to the auger. My only concern is that if there is debris inside, beyond what would be expected, will I make the problem worst by pushing it down the soil pipe?

When you sit toilet over the closet ring, you should be able to "feel" in your hands that toilet sits on top of the ring. Then, you push it down a bit squashing wax ring in process.

Both ways of installing wax ring are acceptable. We prefer to put wax over closet ring and than put toilet over it. But either way it is fine. But, it may be kind of a tricky for somebody who doesn't do it every day. You want to make sure you are lowering toilet exactly over the drain opening. Any side correction may displace the wax ring...

You should be OK by snaking it and flushing potential debris down the toilet. Just give it 2-3 flushes to make sure debris flows all the way to the street.
