    Paying off an old judgement
Several years ago my son was going through a very hard time in his life, drinking to an excess and doing every drug imaginable. His life style was such that he was constantly in trouble with the law. One of these many incidents resulted in a stolen car and an accident involving someone's home. (He actually drove right into someone's house and structurally damaged it).
He was 20 years old at the time, so legally an adult, not working, with absolutely no money.
We were also estranged from him at the same time in a case of tough love.
The insurance company sued him for the $6000+ in damages and a judgement was issued against him. 06/2004
It was never paid and now shows up on his credit report.
I am very happy to say that he has come a very long way, has been sober for a number of years and is trying to get his life back on track.
How do we handle this judgement? Do we contact the insurance company to try to settle it?
He is currently renting a house and we are trying to be proactive here and clean up his credit report. This is the only blemish on it. He has since obtained a credit card and is working hard to make sure all his payments for utilities etc are made on time.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. We are by the way in Ontario, Canada

He needs to ( not you) contact them and work out a payment plan that he can live with.
