How to report scholarship income from 1099 MISC
    Hi,

I am an international student from India on a F1 visa to US university. In 2008, I received a scholarship for conducting research in my lab from a research organization. I have received a 1099 misc from the organization which awarded this scholarship. I know that I need to fill 1040Nr EZ. I do not understand how to report this scholarship on 1040NR EZ. Is there any other form that I need to fill in order to report this income appropriately.
Also, do I need to report this income on state tax return also?

    Please reply
    Thanks in Advance

    Sam

It is a research scholarship. It has been reported in Box # 3 of 1099 misc form. I have received a copy B (recipient's copy) from the organization.

You need to file Form 1040NR and report the income on Line #21 as "Other Income". A state tax return is also required.
