If you purchase and prepare your meals together, you are eligible and your partner's unemployment benefits are considered household income. Check with www.myflorida.com/accessflorida. I know this post was over 2 years ago but if it can help anyone else right now, then so be it, the information is there.

You are aware that the "rules" have changed within the past year AND the OP gave incorrect information when he/she first filed for assistance, right?

So, my question is this... I have been receiving foodstamps and recently moved in with my fiancé and his son. I reported the change to two other resources that were helping me, but neglected to report it when we moved to my foodstamps! It's been about 5months now. I only realized I forgot to report it when I went to re-apply. (I sincerely thought I had made the change.) Once I realized it, I immediately called and spoke to someone to let them know I forgot, and re-applied with the changes. The person I spoke with said it was pending, and they notated the case. I'm so worried about being charged with criminal fraud! I'm an honest person, and would NEVER take advantage, so I'm very worried about what this will do to me. Anyone have this situation? What will be the likely outcome?

If you ARE charged then you present your argument - which you have just presented - and either they believe you or they don't.

You will probably be asked to pay back what you received when you were not entitled. Hopefully that will be the end of things.

I'm in NY and right now NY is tough on what it considers to be fraud - Medicaid, food stamps, etc.

You must file separately.. it isn't about your'e not being able to marry or being gay.. its about survival. You will most likely get more help filing this way. My daughter and I live together-she isn't working and I'm on a fixed income. Just try not to take it so personally... they have their rules and they have the ball.. if you want to play-it's by their rules! Good luck and blessisng!

I am currently considering filing for food stamps. I read the information on the Florida sight and think that I don't qualify because of my room mates. They are retired, I moved here with them with plans on getting to work asap... doesn't even matter how much,, just work.. I am 55 and have worked many types of work... including self-employment... where we are (Ocala) jobs of any kind are scarce and the rules for caregivers, day care workers are much different from where I was... I buy my own food and prepare my own food separately from my roomies. I have my own refrigerator and own pantry... can anyone tell me... DO I Qualify?

The only way to be 100% positive is to apply - I wish I had other news.

Well up until this morning I felt the same way as everyone here!! I had applied for benefits 5 times in the last 9 months because each time I missed my phone interview... DUE TO HIGH CALL VOLUMES... then the system hangs up. Well I decided to call the regional communications staff at the Florida Dept of Children and Families... I left 2 voice mails regarding my situation to the Public Affairs Director and the Office Manager/Public Records Specialist. Told them that I constantly have to reapply and never get through to a human being... That was last night at 6:30pm, this morning at 9:30am I got my phone interview!! And the lady was as pleasant as can be, which is EXTREMELY unusual because they are always rude and nasty during the phone interview! Ahh, VICTORY!!

Here is the link I went to: http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/newsroom/docs/mediaguide.pdf

Good luck and remember kindness always pays off! Don't be mean, rude or nasty to the headquarters communication staff and they will gladly help! :)

Just have her apply separately without you on it. Go online on DCF website and put that she's homeless & use a Po Box # or a trusted relative address as her mailing address. She can notarize a letter written by you stating that you let her use your shower whenever she needs a bath but you do not contribute with financial support. And have her drop it in the DCF office drop box or fax it over. And they will process her immediately with no extra questions or problems.. Miami DCF is a hotmess, they have no structure and make up their policies as they go. Because reciepients never make complaint reports on their caseworkers to Tallahassee or the head office downtown... Caseworkers rarely verify they only go by what YOU tell them. And to be honest their the most crooked people you will ever meet...
Your case is either discrimintory or a an error of delay in your part. Every 3 months when you recertify that's a new application to add new information to your status. If you don't want to choose the 1st option your best bet is to close out your case online at the end of your recertification. And re submit a brand new application with BOTH of you on it. Because what people don't know, is even if they deny you their office is so chaotic, you can re apply minutes later and you will luck up and get a different worker that knows the system better & WILL approve you. Good luck... Its not the worker it's the computer system that determines if you're elgible by what you provide them... Stop disclosing so much unneccssary information about yourself. Just say what they need to know & that's that.
Btw, this advice I received from an actual DCF elgibility worker...

Why is he giving your social? He should say he doesn't know your personal information. He is 19 not a child so he needs to apply independently without you added. They will only ask about you because you already have a case open in your name... It won't affect you if he keep you out his business regarding DCF.

Oh you will be okay. The fact that you notified them helps you out.. The most they will do since it was only 5 months, is reduce your foodstamp benefit until they get the amt they overpaid you with. Once they receive the whole overpayment that was due to DCF, they will give you back your regular amt of stamps. I think for 3 person household the monthly income limit can't be over $2,069 a month It varies with each state. So if you was overpaid be prepared to get garnished or if your case is worse than you're implying you will be sanctioned. Btw, if it's a disabled person in your home the limit will only go by your net and not gross. Goodluck!

Just apply. And say that you RENT out a room in the home you reside in. Don't say anything about beinga "room mate". Have 1 of your roommates write on a paper, that u pay them (X )amt of money a month for rent. And that you're responsible for your own food... Notarize the letter and after you apply online drop the letter in the drop box or fax it to your local DCF office with your case# on the drop box submit form... Also, Make sure on your application, all of your utilities amts that you say u pay, OVERexceed your total amt of income u get a month. Because whatever amt of cash u have left over may disqualify you or reduce the amt you can receive. Btw, a caseworker mentioned if u own a nice car & if u attend college,(depending on your caseworker) he/she might disqualify you because of it... smh So if u encounter a worker like that, just say that your car is broke & not in use... Anyways, once u submit that letter in the drop box & complete your online application, they will contact you or automatically complete your case without a phone call. And process you as a individual.-- if you say that you pay rent, & contribute to utilities independently... Goodluck!
