    Ground Water coming up around basement drain pipe
    Finally located source of water in my basement. Removed shower stall base in basement bathroom. It appears that ground water is coming in around the shower drain pipe (PVC). The area around the pipe is about four inches and about 4 inches deep as well. In addition right outside the bathroom is a "concrete box" in the floor that fills with water from? I've been told it's supposed to be the sump pump overflow. But have not seen that be an issue. The sump pump is about another foot further away from the bathroom and overflow. The sump pump also does not appear to run as much as I would think it should considering all the water that is coming up.

    I just want to stop the water from coming up. Do I need to cement around the pipe? Do I manually drain the concrete box and let it fill? Do I tweak the sump pump or add a second?

    Hope that I have given enough information.

    My thoughts are is there seepage/drainage pipe under the concrete floor that goes to the sump pump? If not that could be an issue here

    I have no idea. One would hope so. But I have no way of really knowing without breaking up the floor. And I'm really hoping not to have to do that.

    I never heard of a sump pump overflow. How long can that last and not fill up with water. If the sump can't Handel the water to begin with then a bigger pit and or pump or both

    I believe that the sump can handle it. My fear is that the water isn't getting to the pump. When the water is rising in the hole, the sump is not running. It's has water in the sump pump, just not enough to trigger it to run. If I go and trip the valve to run, it fills again. Not sure that I'm getting the effects of the water leveling off in the pit prior to the valve being tripped. Maybe I need to tweak the float valve? Too much water to determine if keeping the sump pump running keeps the hole from filling.
