Laser Treatment for acne, acne scars, and red marks
Hi, I am 20yrs old and I've had acne since I was 14. This past year, my acne really flared up. I went to a dermatologist and they told me to go on Accutane. I didn't want to go on, because I already suffer from depression. They also suggested laser treatment for red marks from past acne and tiny holes all over my cheeks. My question is where can I find an AFFORDABLE yet CREDITABLE dermatologist in NYC that performs laser treatment? What should I look for in a doctor?

    Thank you

Here's a website that provides the names and numbers of dermatologists in the New York area. You can also try looking in the yellow pages for one. Choose only an experienced dermatologist. You want to be assured they have the right credentials for the procedures you want performed. Try to do some research before choosing a dermatologist.

Trust me on this do not use the accutane! I had acen for 10 years... I have no acne and no scars now... all I did was change my diet... I was eating a lot of sugary foods/beverages and about 2 weeks after I lowered my intake my acne started to go away.

Laser treatment doesn't work it is overly expensive and not worth it because you have to keep going back and it doesn't help the scarring or redness it makes it worse, I went and had it and it ruined myself confidence I looked like a tomato.

So my advice is pay attention for a week, keep a diary of what you eat/drink, how much you have of it, and how many times a day you have it. After that loook at the diary and lower your intake for a couple weeks and see if your acne clears up! it worked for me

Hope this helps ask me anytime if you want more tips!

Sorry but from 90% of what you just said, that is completely wrong. Laser treatment works AMAZING, you probably turned into a tomato because you didn't follow the derms orders. Also, the foods you eat have nothing to do with acne.

I too am in my early twenties and when I was 18 I went on accutane because I had nodular acne (the kind that leaves scars) if you get lasar treatment but don't get rid of the acne first you acne will return and so will your scars. Take accutane I did and the side effects are intense but if you suffer from acne and depression like I did they probably go hand in hand. Take accutane its 5-6 month of torment but worth a lifetime of clear skin. Then get the lasar treatment to remove the scars and you will be a beauty not only outside but inside as well because your confidence levels will be so high and you can worry about the important things in your life not your skin.

But its very important that you take it as prescribed and if you are female DO NOT GET PREGNANT
Otherwise you may have to stop and start all over. And there is always a chance that 3months to three years after treatment the acne will come back and you might have to take it a second time but if you do it will go away forever after that. Accutane is a concentraied lab made version of vitamin A so anything in high amounts is unsafe. But its not your diet and its not your fault you have acne, blame it on your parents genetics :)

I JUST posted a question about acne concerning the name of a pill that one can take that has a reputation of drying out your skin very much and ridding your face of the problem acne... I see you call it accutane, however is there another prescription pill out there? Thing is the pharmasist recommended (that my friends son) go see his G.P. so he can get a prescription to a pill, which she named but I don't recall that name being "accutane". I believe it was another name and my friend and I don't remember! If anyone has any info it would be awesome. This thread is also very informative... as it could be that he will need laser work on his scars... if they should form. I hope they don't. How can you tell if scars will form anyhow?

Also, I know for a fact that WORD OF MOUTH is the ONLY way one should go about seeking a doctor to perform any kind of work on your dermis. Plastic surgeons are NOT to be found in the yellow pages... SCARY if you don't have a recommendation from someone... it's too risky.
