    Std?
This probably sounds like a really dumb question, but I just wanted to get some opinions because it's driving me crazy. January was the last time I gave oral to a guy. About two weeks later I got a really bad sore throat and noticed red bumps on the back of my tongue and a thicker than normal white coating. The sore throat went away eventually, but sparks right back up if I smoke or talk a lot. The red bumps and white coating are still there and show no signs of going away. So basically I'm wondering if this is a possible std, or if I'm just being super paranoid.

    Good advice above.
But if it worries you go to your doctor immediately!

Thanks for the advice. The reason I haven't gone to the doctor yet is because my mom is still pretty involved in my health issues, doctor visits, etc. (I'm 19). So if I wanted to go to the doctor she'd want to know why and want to check out my throat first and yada yada, and I'd rather she know nothing about it till I'm certain of what it is. I guess why I posted this question in the first place is because it's just really been bugging me lately and I want to get it checked out asap, but if it's highly likely that it's an std, then I'll just wait till I go back to school at the end of September to go to a doctor, so it'll be easier to make up a story for my mom...

How about going to a new doctor, a doctor your mum doesn't know about!

    You are 19 after all.

If it is an oral std you do not want to play around.
Just go to the doc make an excuse with your mom and go behind her back.
You are after all 19 years old.
Time to go out on your own and see the world.
Do you tell your mom everything you do.

Sounds as though it could be strep throat rather than an STD. If so, you could be risking serious complications.

So, if you have to tell your Mum anything, tell her you think you have strep throat.

Update: I just got home from the doctor, and she said the red bumps are completely normal tastebuds that I just must have never noticed before. She said she gets that question a lot because people just notice them all of a sudden. So luckily I was just being super paranoid (like always). Thanks for all of the advice though!
