    IRA and divorce
My ex-husband and I have been amicably divorced for 6 years but we never finished dividing the IRA. Now, I have decided to buy a house and need some money. We have found out we have to have a "quatro" (acryonm but spelled wrong), procedure submitted to divide and transfer the money. I have heard it is expensive and lenthy, does anyone know anything about it? I plan to do the QUATRO and then roll the money into my present 401k and then borrow from the 401k so I may purchase a house. Any ideas?

If it is the same thing we called it a QDRO (qualified domestic relations order). My husband and I just recently separated and in order for me to receive funds from his retirement account at QDRO was required. For us it was very simple, he got the paperwork from his employer we filled out (used no attorneys) and then went before a judge who signed it saying it was a QDRO it was then sent to the people who handle this and I was awarded the funds without having to take the 10% penalty. I had the option of receiving the lump some money and a check written to me for it or I could roll over into my own IRA account.
