Hi could you tell me what is wrong with my daughter she constantly walks round in circles has really bad temper tantrums that last anything between 10 minutes and 2 hrs anything can trigger her off she tells people they smell and if a motor bike goes past she gets scared and holds her ears she lines her animals up we had a kitten that she was violent to she would change her voice and tll it she was going to bite it kick it and strangle it she constantly walked round holding it round the neck we now have got rid of it she screams if her blanket is not right on her feet she likes the feel of velvet and has a comforter if I turn the TV off she screams puts it back on then turns it off herself if she wants a tissue I get her one then she screams that she wants to put it back in the box she pulls her own hair bites herself sometimes and will say she can't stand on the floor because it is dirty when it is not do you think she is autistic or could there be another reason for what she doing ?

Your description of your daughter doesn't sound like autism to me, but I could be wrong. Here is a website (and there are sources available for you to read) on signs of autism:

Whatever you think the signs may be, your description is of a very disturbed adolescent and you should seek professional help as soon as possible.

Hi,
I had a son who showed similar problems to those which you are describing. He had aspergers syndrome. You may like to look up aspergers syndrome it might help. It is a form of autism.
I would recommend that you have your child accessed by an expert in the field of Autism and aspergers syndrome.
If this turns out to be the case you will need plenty of support.
Should your child have this or any similar conditions you may also be entitled to disability benefits for her.

There is such a wide variety of behaviors here that I agree the other possibilities should be considered.

I am providing you with a link for obsessive compulsive disorder as some of her behaviors fall into that category as well.

I would act on getting an assessment ASAP as this is a medical challenge that may take considerable time to be properly diagnosed.

Hi,
I totally agree with Artlady. The sooner you have an acessment done the better.
I wish you al the very best and hope that you will get the help you so urgently need very soon.
Bear in mind that the process can be a long one, but it will be worth it in the end. At least you will then know what you are dealing with and will get the right support to help you to cope with it.

Don't forget to look after yourself at the same time. I know from 20 years of experience that these problems also have a bearing on mums health etc. Try to make time for yourself on a regular basis. Put your feet up, go for a walk any thing but do get away to give yourself the break. Half an hour is better than nothing every week. That means alone or with friends but minus the problem child.
Try asking friends and relatives if they can help take some of the burden off your shoulders. Grandparents are usually handy for this. If you have any, ask then to sit with your child no matter the age of the child while you get that much needed break.

MY son is 3 years old and Autistic, it sounds to me like you're child may be on the Spectrum. The blanket issue could be a sensory issue wich is related to Autism. Does she walk on her Tip Toes, or flap her hands when excited. Why I am not a doctor we parents of our Special children all share the same stories on symptoms. I do suggest you have her tested for Autism. Autism usually comes in pairs meaning they usually have some other symptom IE OCD ADD ADHD. Her ears are very sensitive and lights may hurt her it alls goes to sensitivity issues. Again it is my "opinion" that she does have a variety of the symptoms that go with Autism. I understand that this may be a scary thought but the BEST thing you can do is get her screened NOW. The sooner you do the better her chances are to lead a healthy happy life. There are many support groups and I would be more then glad to help you and you're family with any questions concerns or if ever need to talk. Please feel free to email me at [email protected].
