    401(k) withdrawal taxes and penalty
I lost my job in April '08 as a Mortgage Loan Officer and have had to survive on my 401(k). I altimately still had to file BK, Chapter 7 and am now losing my house. I'm trying to find if I can use hardship rules to waive the 10% penalty.

Negative. There are NO hardship withdrawal provisions from a 401K other than to pay for medical costs in excess of 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income.

You will have to pay all state and federal income taxes due PLUS the 10% Early Withdrawal Penalty.

401K early withdrawal penalty [ 1 Answers ]

This may sound like a stupid question, but, please understand that I am an artist -- not a money person. If you take an early withdrawal from a 401K plan, pay the 20% state and federal tax before receiving the disbursement, how do you claim all this on the tax form? Can you use the EZ forms or do...

401K withdrawal taxes and penalty figures [ 11 Answers ]

I can tell I'm going to make about $32000 this year... Back in Feb. our company did away with its (Cash Balance) plan of retirement, in which we had several choices to make on it. Mine was to take it in a lump sum, which was not the smartest, but what's done is done. The amount was $12,295 and the...

401k early withdrawal and 10% penalty [ 2 Answers ]

In regard to an early 401k withdrawal, can someone advise if the 10% penalty is calculated on the amount AFTER the 20% withholding, or is it on the amount of the original withdraw? (e.g. If you withdraw $10,000 from your 401k early, and the company withholds 20%=$2000; are you then required to pay...
