    Status conference in Maryland
What does Status conference/Criminal motions mean in Maryland?
Does the defendant need to be present at the status conference?
If the defendant required to be present, will he be asked to testify?
When will the plea bargain take place, does that take place during the status conference?
If plea bargain occurs and the defendant pleads guilty, when will be the sentencing.
Whether it will be on the same day or will it be after sometime.

Anyone please answer my questions. I will be very grateful to you.

It's a meeting with the judge before the trial to update the court on any progress the parties may have made in resolving issues. The Defenant does not have to be present. In my area it's unusual to have the Defendant present. It's more about Attorneys keeping the Court informed. I have never seen testimony taken. Again, it's an update on where the case stands.

No, the plea bargain does not take place at the status conference. It's merely an update given to the Court as to the status of the case - ready for trial, not ready for trial, agreement reached, no agreement reached, that type of conversation.

If at some point there's a plea bargain sentencing is "usually" at another date. It depends on the charge and the plea.

These are questions to ask your Attornney who is familiar with Maryland Law and your specific charges.
