    A good lubricant?
My boyfriend lives away for the army so when we actually do have sex we do it quite a bit. It seemed somewhat obvious to me that eventually I would have a UTI but we take a lot of precautions to prevent them (I've always been very susceptible to them since I was a toddler). I take cranberry pills and we make sure we're very clean before. Well at first we would get them for a while and than suddenly when we were first together I would get them right away. We couldn't figure out what exactly was causing them. Well recently I just put together that every day after we would use lubricant (KY's yours & mine but we don't use it very much because my body seems to be very good at making it's own) that was when I would get one.

So basically I need a lubricant that won't make me have one. Does anyone know of an organic one or something? Help would be much appreciated :).

Bacteria causes bladder infections and many sexually transmitted diseases.

The lubricant you use is unlikely to contain bacteria when it is packaged. There are lots of germs on our hands on our genitals and our mouths are virtual sewers.

Excessive stroking leads to bladder infections as the urethra is only 1-1 1/2 inches long and the constant rubbing forces juices up into this mini canal.

Saliva is specially loaded with germs... using it on a female's genitals is another great cause of UTI's.

It is a matter of female genital hygiene.

So, any brand name lubricant should be fine... try them all and see which one you like the best.

    Best wishes, :)

Normally I would think you were right but it doesn't seem like bacteria is the problem. The first time I got a UTI while having sex with him was right after we first used the lube. I was thinking it was something chemical though because when I got my UTI when I was little a lot of them were from bubble baths (not regular ones). With us there was one time where I got one the second time we had sex when both times we took a shower right before. It just seems a little strange that the only times I've gotten UTI's were when we used the lube. And I'm incrediblely clean and the vast majority of the time I clean before and after sex. That's why I was thinking maybe an organic lube would be good?

Are you urinating every time after sex?

That is the best way to prevent a uti. It pushes all the dirt away from the urethra. Washing away the dirt is not as good as you can push it back up.

I catch uti's easily. Urinating after sex is my saviour.

Stick with name brands like KY or Astroglide, but any comercially produced ones will be fine. Any UTI will be caused by sources other than these as was mentioned.

Seeing that some posters here are suggesting urination sort of flushes any bacteria away after sex. I wonder if lube is part of the problem.

I know my wife takes a shower after using lube of any sort because she hates the way it feels and it's difficult to remove with just a wash cloth etc.. From my own personal experience it's even difficult to remove it all and I'm male. I wonder if the lube if left in the genital area traps some bacteria in the urethra or surrounding area which would otherwise be flushed by urinating or a simple clean.

It can't hurt to pee as suggested but I would add the suggestion to take a shower (not a bath) after sex and thoroughly clean your genitalia to remove any lube that may work it's way to your urethra.

Yeah... if I have to go (not too bad) I will wait until after I am done having sex.

Even if I don't have the urge, I will sit on the toilet and turn the faucet on to hear running water, helping me go even just the slightest.

I am pretty religious on doing this. Even just the slightest bit of urnine coming out the urethra has saved me many, many times.

I will do anything to avoid a uti

I had this same problem and I think that the presence of Lube is the pathway for which the bacteria travels to up the Ut to get the infection.

ALso, I went to a urologist and had a small surgery to fix a ut problem that was trapping the bacteria. Did you know that 25% of women have the same "deformity" that needs addressing which caused the UTI's?

Anyway that was almost 20 years ago. I suffered UTI's constantly after sex... then surgery and I have only had two since. Might be worth a look?
