What type of bug, insect thing is this!
My mother saw a bug that was about 1 1/2"-2" in length and was shaped like a beetle. It was black and there was 1 single red dot on each of the wings. Can anyone help. We live in Connecticut.

Do you have a picture? A picture would help.

    That's too bad.

All I can suggest is to Google it. Put as much description into the Google as possible. Go to images under Google and it should show tons of pictures of bugs that match the description you put in.

Without having seen it, I really can't tell you what it is. Sorry.

    Good luck.

You might start with these guys: Ground Beetles | What's That Bug?

I'm betting it's something in the longhorn beetle clan, but

    And
    2. Even if I'm right there are a BUNCH of different longhorn beetles.
