    Daschund Puppy Chewing Problems...
I have a 7mo. Old Daschund puppy. He is the sweetest dog, but he has a MAJOR chewing problem. He has no less than six toys, gets treats twice a day, and has adapted pretty well to potty training.

Unfortunately, he chews on other things as well...
    - carpet
    - baseboards (he chewed it until he threw up)
    - walls
    - paper (any paper left within his jumping reach, he shreds)

I know dogs don't like to be left alone, but he is doing this behavior while I'm home. I have a home office, and normally he has free reign of the house during the day. So it's not as if I'm absent or don't play with him and spend time with him throughout the day.

At night he is confined to the office room, where he sleeps on the couch. At first he protested being in there, but within two days he adapted to it, and sleeps from 9pm to 7am.

The destructive behavior almost always occurs during the day, when I'm home, not when I'm gone. I'm not sure what I can do, but I know I can't continue to let him destroy the house. Any suggestions??

My dachshund wasn't a chewer at all. But she only lived to be 3 months, so I can't say what they do when they are older. I too have heard that chewing is done out of boredom, but my pug chews for the heck of it it seems. I spray bitter spray on things I don't want her to chew on and it so far has been a God send... try that and see if it works, short of obedience training, I'm stumped!

I agree My doxie is 6 to 7 mons also and he his horrible about chewing. I have 2 other ones and they never chewed anything up like this one. He has eaten 2 dog collars off one of my other dogs, pop cans, bounce sheets, his toys and everything he can get his mouth on. I have been lucky enough that he hasn't chewed my furniture. I will have to try the bitter stuff to. Any other advice is welcome.
