Asking an individual for a charitable gift
I have a donor who has given my charity a gift for almost ten years without anyone ever asking him for it.

He always sends it on his own. Except for this year.
What approach or words would you recommend I use when calling this person to ask him to consider renewing a gift?

Since he has never been called by us, he might be sensitive to being called and solicited. He has attended some of our charitiable events and it is clear he is supportive.

I plan to call him but would like some thoughts and advice on how to open the conversation besides thanking him for his past support.

Perhaps invite him to lunch, and let that just be a hint.

A lot of giving is way down this year, esp if this is a corporate account because of the bad economy

I'm a church treasurer. A member has given a check for $10,000 for a building fund campaign and wants us to send him a receipt for $5,000 in 2007 and $5,000 in 2008. The donor obviously wants to take $5,000 for tax purposes in each of the two years. While I could set it up this way on the church...

This one may be splitting hairs but I thought I would ask. I know you can't contribute your time and take a charitable deduction. But lets say your time involves producing a tangible product. For example, lets say you are a software developer. You develop an application that you deem worth...

I have a Gospel Music Band. I have not applied for non-profit status although the real income is much less the $10,000 a year. An individual has expressed a desire to donate a Bus for us to travel in, however, they would like to write it off as a donation to this ministry. Is this possible?
