Liable for the debts of a deceased husband?
My husband, John, just passed away from a stroke few weeks ago. Aged 73. I am now trying to live my life with only one annuity that he purchased for me few years back. One of his credit cards has balance of $7,000 owed. Am I liable for it? Will annuity go into his estate? Thank you for your kind help.

When my husband died he had several thousand dollars on a Discover Card. They pursued me for the money. My husband had no will or life insurance (he died unexpectedly at age 29). I had been informed that if my name was not on the account, I was not responsible for the debt. Even though my husband had a card issued in my name, I was not listed on the actual account. I explained this to the Discover Card collectors. Eventually they accepted that I was not going to pay it, and they stopped asking.
