    Bad Checking Accounts
    Hello,

I received a phone call from a law firm re: a balance that I owe on a bad checking account. The gentleman told me that he was giving me a chance to pay voluntarily before they garnish my wages. Is a collector authorized to garnish my wages for a bad checking account?

Yes, but not without filing a lawsuit and being granted a judgment.

Typically collectors like that, yes even ones who are law firms, try to make it sound as if the garnishment is "imminent" when it is not.

You're welcome. Play a little humble with them and they'll probably set you up on payments.

    Good luck with it!
