Home theatre systems
Hi
I am in the process of finishing my basement. I currently have my recessed lights installed and now I would like to run all the necessary cables and wires for a theatre system. Does anyone know what types of wires and cables I need to run to tie in a receiver, DVD player, Cable, Internet, Surrond Sound Speakers which will eventually all be controlled by remote control. Currently I just bought 300 linear feet 16/2 gauge insulated speaker wires. I would like to intergrate all these components together.

I would consult a home theatre specialist on this. There are many different types of cabling involved with a home theatre system. The speaker wiring should be fine for connecting the speakers. You will need CAT 6 cabling for Internet. Your Cable probably needs RG59U Coax. There are other cables needed to go from Setup box to TV, form DVD player to TV etc.

Just to add to Scott's answer;
Your DVD/TV/Cable box setup would probably need SCART cables for the best connection.
I do have to disagree with the recommendation of Cat 6 cable as this is serious over kill for a home connection.
Standard Cat 5 (ethernet) cable would be more than enough, slightly cheaper too ;)

On a side note: Granted, you can probably find better pricing than Staples, but just last week I just bought a cable at Staples.
There, Cat 5 is almost double the cost of Cat 6.

Ben,
I suggested Cat6 only because its more widely available, especially in bulk cabling now. But I agree that its overkill. If Cat5 or 5E can be obtained its fine.
