    Contract for deed
We had a contract for deed on our house. We have finished paying it off. The seller is deceased now. After she passed away, her daughter contacted us to make the remaining payments to her. This is in the state of Texas. How do we get the deed in our names? Thank you.

    Hello lonestar:

I'd hire a real estate attorney to protect your rights and handle the closing. It won't cost much - maybe a couple hundred $$. Let's hope your contract protects you under the present circumstances.

The daughter has either transferred it to her name first in probate and she now signs it over. Or you would have finished paying probate court and the court signs it over to you.

Send a letter with a copy of the contract. State that since you have competed your end of the contrct you will expect her to provide you with a deed in your names.
