Advanced security settings in 2003 server
    Hi All,

I have sent one attachment where it goes to advanced security settings in permission list of shared folders. My doubt is that at the end you have an option like

    1) Allow inheritable permission from parent and so on
    2) Replace permission entries on all child object and so on

What does this option do exactly

Advanced security settings for Windows Server 2003.. : Security : Windows Server : Microsoft TechNet Forums

Check on the above link for your advanced security setting.

For my understand, If you create the shared folder and give permission to user, default got the tick on "Allow inheritable permissions to propagate form the parent to this object and all child objects.... "

If you want to understand more , learn on above link.

For above Question, Where is your shared folder ? Is in your PC or in the Server ?

In Server , you can create the user group in Active Directory Users and Computers.

ႈIf you have AD , you just give the permission on your folder by user name or user group.

Yes the folder has been shared in server. By default what happens is that in which ever user name you login to the server when the shared folders are displayed and you double click . It gets opened.I at least need them to ask the username and password but I cannot keep on giving permissions to each user or groups for each folder . Does the server rules itself say that it should be done in this method like you have mentioned in the above post or is there any other way to make it secure as I have asked now
