    Paint on top of paint
Well, here I am again. I am ready to paint my other walls. I want to use a paint that I can wash dirt off easily.

I want to paint the walls white with red vertical stripes. The red paint I have is a satin latex.
I know I need to prime first, but what kind of white paint can I use underneath the red stripes? I would like to use one that is fairly sturdy since it is in the kitchen. And if you can tell me the correct type of primer? Oil based? Acrylic?

    Thank you so much.

You can use a latex eggshell, satin or semi-gloss under the stripes, these will all clean-up. I don't think you need a primer unless this is new drywall of if you are using latex over a oil based paint, or your changing the color significantly.
