New Central AC Needed. Tips? Warnings?
I live in south Florida, so a central AC is mandatory, to say the least, almost year round. The existing unit, about a ten year old Rheem with an 11 seer, 3 ton, is ready to be retired. We have decided to go with a whole new unit, (compressor and air handler). The compressor is located outside the house, on the north side, and the air handler is in the garage, easily accessible.
Never having done this before, I'm wondering what to look for before I speak with several local installers.
The house is around 1,500 sf under air. Any one manufacturer more worthy than the next? Any to especially avoid? If I were to base my decision on marketing, Trane is the way to go down here. But who knows if that's correct. I do know they get a pretty penny for them.
Our expected stay in our current residence is more than likely short term, say another year or so. At which time we will either sell, or keep as a rental unit.
Your opinions are appreciated. Thank you.
