We had a wood burning stove installed a little over a year ago
And during the last rain's we noticed we have a leak around
The pipe.
We have a family menber that said they would come fix it but it seem's
Like it is going to be a problem to get them to come over and fix it.
I am thinking it should not be that big of a problem.But I am not to sure
So that's why I am asking on here?
There is three layers of shingles and I am wondering if that has any thing
To do with why the stove installers screwed up installation.
There was a one year warranty against leak's,I was a little mad that they
Didn't tell me that until the installation was finished.
So would the many layer's of shingles have any thing to do with the
Leak or is it all about how the flashing is tucked under the felt.
Would'nt it most likely be how they slid it under the felt.
I was not up on the roof with the installers but I know they had a calking
Gun with some of the black goop in it.
Would I be able to lift the shingles up and check it out or is it a little more to it than that?

Slid under the felt? No, they would have merely slid it under the top layer of shingles unless the last layer of shingles was put on after the flashing and they put felt down over the other two lawyers of shingles.

Ok, my son tells me that he would never put a third layer of shingles on, Two is tops, He also said while it is permitted in some areas, some areas have codes that only allow a max of two layers. I know that I have never put three on any of my houses.

But how wide is the flashing and how well does the top go up under the shingles. Is there sealent on all sides of the flashing, and if so what type did they use.

It could be nothing more than they used a cheap sealent and it has cracked allowing water to seep in. Also does water puddle on the flashing or is it made to allow water to run off it.

Next is there a chimmey cap, to stop water from coming down the chimmey itself,

You sort of have to go up and look and see what it appears to be.
