I'm finishing my basement and I want to know What kind of door do I need for around the furnace? I know I need fireproof sheetrock which I bought, but I don't know what kind of door do I need. I was told a wood door it's OK as long as it has ventilation(bifold door), Is this right? I'm confuse because wood will ignite with fire. Help... What kind of door should I use? Thank you.

Visit your city permit department for the codes on how far you must keep the door away from your furnace. They can tell you everything you need to know. Also you must provide combustion air inside if you close it right off. Is this what you need to know?

Normally, fire rated doors are only required in commercial construction and then there is a BTU requirement. I'm not saying don't do it, it's a good idea, just consult your local building department. In residential construction the only fire rated door required is a 20-minute or solid wood core between the garage and house.

I would be more concerned with cutting off the combustion air if this is a small room. Verify with the local building department.
