I find that stat very hard to believe. But if canadians do have more guns they are shotguns for hunting. The lesser gun violence stat represents that fact that they are far less desperate people in these countries than in the US, or maybe they prize life to a higher degree (i.e. the taking of a life is not as glorified as it is in the US).

Absolutely Correct, it has been proven in areas that have adopted a more liberal concealed carry policy, that having more of the honest citizens armed, DOES reduce violent crime, with or without a firearm being involved.

It only makes sense. I recall that Sheriff in GA. who required EVERY citizen to poses a firearm inside their home. Yes, they even made it a law. The violent crime rate dropped dramatically. Believe it or not, the surrounding counties, without this new law, saw large increases in the violent crime rates after this county became "ARMED".

Criminals may be dumb, but they are not so stupid when it comes to not wanting to be hurt or killed, that is just a plain animal instinct, to survive.

They WILL avoid a situation where there is a good possibility that the victim could be armed and defend themselves and will choose a more likely defenseless victim instead.

Correction, I said "seems" like the right choice. In all honesty I couldn't care less at this point.

I am sick and tired of working my butt off 40+ hours a week for just above minimum wage praying for the next increase just to find out that they raised the taxes to build a freaking dome for the all great and wonderful Colts when the one they have works just fine. If they don't know how to play in the snow they need to take their a**es to Warren Central High School and practice on their million dollar football field. And if they still aren't happy then they should take a pay cut and see if they can live on just 1/4 of a million a year instead a full million. As far as I am concerned politicians are ALL crooked and are ALL out to benefit themselves and only themselves. I am beginning to think that the number of people that truly care about "America" is few and far between now. In reference to the gun thing... the government is all over that here too. They don't want anyone to have too many guns or to big of guns for fear of a revolution. If you buy guns on a regular basis they check you out and come to your house. They watch every move you make. I mean that is obvious when it takes 25 city cops, a swat team and bears in the air to take down one freakin guy armed with a double barrell shotgun that only wants to kill himself. Then after they have stormed his house removed his gun, destroyed every room in the house, and beat the living tar out of him all 75 armed and fully padded officers give each other high fives and big ol' pats on the back." good job guys" " couldn't have done that one without ya". And what did the guy that just wanted to kill himself get, 2 years in the pen having surgery to his rear end and all of his debt building up and the IRS itching to get him as soon as he gets out. If he isn't murdered before then. I recall the old military sign.. with Uncle Sam pointing out and it reads HE WANTS YOU. Your damn right he does only it should say HE WANTS YOUR MONEY AND TO HELL WITH YOU.

And we are supposed to call them when we need help. Are you kidding me? First words out of ANY dispatcher's mouth when you call the cops on someone else or to help you out is... "And your name is...?" If someone is getting shot 3 houses down what the hell do you need to know MY name for? JUST FREAKIN SAVE EM!!
Oh and by the way you aren't allowed to so much as raise a hand to your own flesh and blood children, or anyone else for that matter, even if they are trying to beat you up, but you tell a cop to f off and what happens... you wake up in a cell with only one eye able to open and a mouth full of blood. Hypocritical dontcha think? But that's the government. We pay EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM TO RAPE US REPEATEDLY UNTIL WE DIE. Then they get anything that's left.

To the original post: Unless someone can get Iran to give up its pursuit of nuclear weapons, the cold hard fact is that there will be a war with them. Either before or after they launch a warhead, probably against Israel. If Iran and Israel get into it in a big way, is there any chance that other countries, including us, will be able to stay out of it? I doubt it will make any difference who is in the oval office.

Do you really think that trying to convince them not to have nuclear ANYTHING is going to stop another world war if it's going to happen? This country thinks it's got the war on drugs whipped. No, the drug dealers just got better at hiding it. You think they know everyone in this country that has guns? NO, because some people are real good at hiding them. So do you really think that ANY country is going to hand over all their nuclear weapons and NEVER make any more? That is like telling a serial killer to stop and trusting he will never do it again just because we said not to.

America needs to man up and start thinking DEFENSE instead of ALWAYS thinking OFFENSE. We need to get ALL our troops back home to protect and help ourselves. Use the technology they pretend they don't have to spy on the other countries and keep our military at home. We need to start thinking into the future on how to protect ourselves from a nuclear war instead of thinking we could EVER stop one. You know what really makes me laugh... Our forefathers came to America to get away from the English rule and laws. I understand that it is mainly a security problem and it is within our own country that crap gets through the loop holes, but I have learned the hard way that if you have enough money you can make ANYTHING happen. So start showing everyone that that type of crap won't be tolerated in this country and I bet we knock crime and underhanded stuff down to near nothing. We should start hanging people on times square and cutting hands off again for stealing. I bet people won't be so quick to break the rules. But that is just too mean.

Yeah look at us 100 years ago and look at us now. Then all you had to worry about was someone stealing your horse or shooting you in the back. Now you have to worry about... do I really have to list everything? Technology has put us more at risk than it has protected us. Is there maybe a slight coincidence in that?

Think on this and tell me if this isn't backwards...
If I quit my job and leave my husband I will get child support for all three kids. Mandatory.
I will qualify for over $400 a month in food stamps.
I will qualify for over $400 a month in TANF(free money)
I will qualify for free insurance for myself and all 3 kids.
I will get subsidized housing that I only pay about $19 a month for a 3 bedroom townhouse apartment.
I can go to food pantries and get even more free food.
I can get free money for utilities
I can get free daycare vouchers, even though I don't have a job.
I can get vouchers to go buy clothes to go look for a job.
I can get vouchers to help pay for gas to go look for a job.
Or I could get free transportation form the city anywhere I need to go.
I can get my GED (if I didn't have one) for FREE
And I would qualify for about 15 federal grants to go to college that the working man(woman) wouldn't qualify for.

BUT>>>> if I have a job, pay taxes, and remain married. I get to work until I am 65 years old in the hopes that I will have enough social security to pay for my food and house and gas and lights and heat and car. Oh and I will still have to pay for insurance and prescriptions and if I would like to go to the movies occasionally or get out and go on vacation, I better get a part-time job saying hello at wal-mart. But don't work too many hours or good ol uncle sam will getcha!
