    The Old "A" Drive
    Not being the brightest blip on the radar screen,I purchased a new computer that does not carry an A drive.

    Unfortunately I am old school and have many disks (originals) and no method of dealing with them.

    Is there anyway these disks may be copied to CDs and used accordingly?

    My biggest concern is I am an Excel user and I don't really want to pay for a new version.

    Try this:
    Create a folder for your office disks (or whatever), call it "office" then under this folder create a subfolder named "disk1" and copy the contents of setup floppy disk 1 to it. Repeat the process for all the floppy disks so you end up with disk1... diskx subfolders.

    Copy this structure to the CD and then navigate to \office\disk1\ and run the installation program (setup.exe or whatever). I've certainly had this work for me! (but not with office in particular)

    Or you can get a USB floppy drive for about $50.

    Also what version of Excel is on those floppies? It may be too old to run on a Win XP machine.

    Thanks Stumugu and Scottgem,

    Being as I am not going out for a few days I'll try Stu's suggestion and call around to Best Buy (Now In Canada) to check out the possibility of getting the drive

    You started by saying you purchased a new system. Have you considered just pulling the floppy drive from your old system and plumbing it into your new one ?
