    I need help with some algebra. Is there such a thing as Checking Roots? For example:

    Given- Determine whether 5 is a root of the equation 4x - 1 = 19.
    The solution given is:

    Solution: Replace x by 5.

    4(5) - 1 = 19
    20 -1 = 19
    19 = 19

    The values on each side of the equation are the same, so 5 is a root of the equation.

    Is this true?
