Work in NJ and living in NYC?
Hi, I recently did my taxes and found out that I owed NY a lot of taxes even though my only source of income was working in New Jersey. Can any one explain the reciprocal taxes program between NY & NJ.

I do work for the Federal government and I am in law enforcement in New Jersey. I am currently paying NJ State, NY State, NY City, and of course Federal, SS, Medicare etc. Any relief for me? Thank you.

You work in NJ and don't live in NY, you will file NJ tax return and pay taxes to NJ.

You live in NY but don't work in NY, you will file NY tax return and claim credit for taxes paid to NJ.
