    How do u tell if a coil is bad on a riding lawn mower.

    Well assuming your flywheel key is not sheared to the point where the flywheel still turns. You can remove the smaller black wire from the coil and turn the engine over with the key and check for spark. If you have spark then, the kill wire is bare somewhere, replace the kill wire. If you still have no spark, the coil is likely bad.
