A manager can perform lots of things to get a compatible ability-job fit. Our text gives us various ways as well. One way is to perform a job analysis (Robbins, 2005). A job analysis will provide information about jobs currently being done and the abilities that individuals need to perform the jobs adequately. Applicants then will have the responsibility to be tested, interviewed, and evaluated on the degree to which they have the necessary abilities. Another way that the test gives is by fine-tuning the job to better match an incumbent's abilities (Robbins, 2005). Often, changes can be made in the job that does not have a major impact on the job's basic activities, which better adapts it to the specific talents of a given employee. Examples would be to change some of the equipment used or to reorganize tasks and offices within a group of employees (Robbins, 2005).
