    What will be my taxable marital status
    Hi,
    I am married 2 yrs back.I am living in usa since may'2005 along with my wife.I have received my w2 form where it has been stated as Single.I have asked my employer to change that and sent them a new w4 form.My wife does not have any income and she does not have any social security number too.Now while filing my return what will be my taxable marital status?

    You can file Form 1040 as Married Filing Jointly. Leave her SSN field blank!

    Fill in Form W-7. Follow the W-7 instructions and attach it to the Form 1040. Mail it to the IRS Center in Philadelphia, PA. They will assign your wife an ITIN, fill it in where her SSN goes, and process your return.

    Wait until you get the ITIN before you file the state tax return.
