    Thanks for the reminder of "Big Ten Inch", haha... good song, I love Aerosmith! "Put Your Records On" is by a really young English girl by the name of Corinne Bailey Rae. I like all of her songs. She has such a sweet, almost angel like tone to her voice. To me it's a real "feel good" song. That all depends on my mood though. I can go from new to old, rock to alternative to country, to whatever my mood is at that particular moment. One of the things I have a hard time getting into is rap, but there are a few I can handle. I'm almost embarrassed to say, I'm a big Am Idol "closet fan" too, and there are some really good singers on this yr that I know will go on to put out some great music! Any more closet fans out there? ;)

    Yes , I'm a great fan of Pop Idol, both in America and UK. Sadly I can't watch them now because I'm living in East Europe for a while, and I REALLY miss them. I watched the one when Fantasia Burrino won, and Jennifer Hudson was in that, also remember Bo Bice and another guy who was in the last few but I can't remember his name, he was cute though.
    I really think Leona Lewis who won the UK X Factor is brilliant. I didn't get to see Elliott Yamin who was 3rd in Am Idol 5th series, but I read about him and bought his album, and it's really good. I know these shows get a lot of flack, but they can be great entertainment :)

Classical music is usually performed by musicians who read music, both notes and rhythm plus they have a conductor. When a rock group plays its selections tightly, like one person, wow. Many of them had classical training too.

    Elton John's original band is amazing. Check out the album 11/17/70. It was recorded live, in a radio studio. The bass (Dee Murray) and drums (Nigel Olson) are indescribable and the other two, Elton and Davy Jones are so tight.

    One of my favorite bands is Rage Against the Machine. I dislike the vocal style, but those guys put out music as if they were one person. They probably put in hours with one another and a metronome.

    I grew up listening to classical music, but was allowed to pick whatever kind of music I liked. Thanks Mom and Dad.
    If anyone listens to Queen, especially "Night at the Opera" or "Day at the Races" albums, you definitely have to appreciate the orchestral talent, the tightness of the "band" with the orchestra, the incredible voice of Freddie Mercury (bless his soul) and how everything just came together into a perfectly wrapped package. It was classical, it was classic rock, sometimes country, and just had the interaction of so many different instruments. It was a in a class of it's own that just can't be duplicated.

    While we are thanking Mom and Dad ;), I'll say thanks too, for giving me my allowance when I was young, in the form of records for helping out at their music store, instead of letting us run around with a pocket full of money. It has really given me an appreciation for music! I feel bad for people who never had the opportunity to realise just how much it can influence and enhance your life!

    It's too bad you can't watch! I'm just starting to learn their names this yr, but there are a few really good ones. One girl named Amanda is a rocker, with a kind of gravelly strong voice, and there is a white guy with dreads who has a really unique sounding voice, and another guy that is really awesome too. It's the results show tomorrow, so it will be down to the top 12. I like to pick them early on and see if I get it right in the end ;)

    Dispenser by Cursive is lyrically one of my favorite songs and any song by Cursive is awesome. Double Vision Quest, Ice Monster, and Pachuca Sunrise by Minus the Bear are all amazing sounding songs as well as any song by Minus the Bear.

    We have the same "ex" situation and now the same taste in music... I may be ISneezeFunny's doppleganger, but Windshield is mine. Would you happen to be 5'8''?

    I <3 Cursive and Minus the Bear.

    Queen! That group is in a class by itself. Freddie Mercury was a 'Mozart.' It really makes me wonder where things would be musically if many musicians had not died young. But then there are the old guys who are still great, and still alive.

    Am I the only one who feels that Rap and many Jazz pieces are not 'music' but definitely an art form? Music to me has a melody. I like Rap that has a melody, usually the melody is in the bass line. Jazz that distorts melody in an established piece just irritates me. Jazz takes talent, but why screw up Jingle Bells? Maybe I missed something?

    I've always thought that Jazz is very close to life. We're all given these certain parameters in which we operate, we are given a certain number of notes, sometimes we find ourselves lost in a mysterious musical puddle, but we find our way out... and are left with a chaotic order that is perfectly balanced... No life is ever the same, but they have the same parameters... no two people are the same, but every so often you find someone that you can "play with" that perfectly compliments your piece.

    Maybe its simply because my life is a jazz piece at the moment, but I love knowing that one day, it will all work itself out and I'll be looking back on it with wonder and excitement.

    Did that make sense to anyone else? LOL! :)

    I sooo agree with you about the rap and some of the jazz! The rap especially, is in a class of it's own, and you're right to say it's more of an art form than "music" in my opinion. So you are definitely not alone in your thinking!

    My stepson is into a lot of rap, and I challenged him to find me one that I could really get into. I'll have to admit he found a few that grew on me. (In The Air Tonite--Lil Kim/Phil Collins) was one... but then again, that has a melody in some parts and of course it's Phil Collins!

    I try to keep an open mind as far as "music" goes... but the fine line between "music" and "art form" is a little blurry sometimes. :confused:

    A beautiful song I heard recently (thanks HC) that I fell in love with the very first time I heard it. I had to post it and challenge each of you to log into iTunes, listen and tell me you don't love this melody and its precious words. This is a beautiful, beautiful duet that you all have to hear. Each of us have one, or more people we have been blessed to meet throughout our lives that have changed us, for good.

    From the musical Wicked, 'For Good'

    ELPHABA
    I'm limited:
    Just look at me - I'm limited
    And just look at you -
    You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
    So now it's up to you
    (spoken) For both of us
    (sung) Now it's up to you:

    GLINDA
    I've heard it said
    That people come into our lives for a reason
    Bringing something we must learn
    And we are led
    To those who help us most to grow
    If we let them
    And we help them in return
    Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
    But I know I'm who I am today
    Because I knew you:

    Like a comet pulled from orbit
    As it passes a sun
    Like a stream that meets a boulder
    Halfway through the wood
    Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
    But because I knew you
    I have been changed for good

    ELPHABA
    It well may be
    That we will never meet again
    In this lifetime
    So let me say before we part
    So much of me
    Is made of what I learned from you
    You'll be with me
    Like a handprint on my heart
    And now whatever way our stories end
    I know you have re-written mine
    By being my friend:
    Like a ship blown from its mooring
    By a wind off the sea
    Like a seed dropped by a skybird
    In a distant wood
    Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
    But because I knew you:

    GLINDA
    Because I knew you:

    BOTHI have been changed for good

    ELPHABA
    And just to clear the air
    I ask forgiveness
    For the things I've done you blame me for

    GLINDA
    But then, I guess we know
    There's blame to share

    BOTH
    And none of it seems to matter anymore

    GLINDA ELPHABA
    Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
    From orbit as it Off it's mooring
    Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
    A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
    A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
    Through the wood Bird in the wood

    BOTH
    Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
    I do believe I have been changed for the better?

    GLINDA
    And because I knew you:
    ELPHABA
    Because I knew you:

    BOTH
    Because I knew you:
    I have been changed for good.

    A new artist that I have to tell each of you I fell in love with. He has a beautiful voice and when he sings I get goosbumps. He is a country music artist and each of his songs send a strong message. They actually make me cry as they are sung with all heart and conviction. As we have all said music touches our souls and leaves it's mark on our hearts. This young man has left a big one on mine.

    My three favorite songs are,

    'Life is Hard'

    'I Lost it All'

    'Wait till I Get There'
    `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````````````````````````
    Life is Hard
    Sometimes life is hard like trying bail out the ocean with a spoon
    Sometimes life is hard like trying to turn December into June
    And sometimes life is hard like trying lasso a quarter moon
    Sometimes life is
    Sometimes life is hard
    Sometimes life is hard is trying to stop a freight train from passing
    Sometimes life is hard can't wish it away make it unhappen
    Sometimes life is hard you cry you cry till you start laughing
    Sometimes life is
    Sometimes life is hard
    But you
    You make it easier
    Yeah you
    You make it easier
    Help me hold on a little longer
    Your love makes me stronger
    When it allll falls apart
    Cause sometimes life is hard, yeah
    Sometimes life is hard and broken hearts just keep on hurting
    And sometimes life is hard when we get lost but we keep on searching
    And sometimes life is hard like a rusty wheel that is barely turning
    Sometimes life is
    Sometimes life is hard
    But you
    You make it easier
    Yeah you
    You make it easier
    Help me hold on a little longer
    Your love makes me stronger
    When it all falls apart
    Cause sometimes life is hard
    When the darkness fills my soul
    And even summer day feels cold
    And the answers to my questions only God knows
    But you
    You make it easier
    Yeah you
    You make it easier
    Help me hold on a little longer
    Your love makes me stronger
    When it all falls apart
    Cause sometimes life is hard
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
    Wait Till I Get There

    I was 500 miles away when I got the call on a cold winter day
    Mama was crying when she said son hurrying home
    She said your grandpa is not doing well
    And the doctors said it’s hard to tell
    But by the looks of things he don’t have long
    Lord I knew someday that this time would come
    So before he take you home

    (chorus)
    Wait till I get there
    Don’t let him leave this world without me having the chance to say goodbye
    I want to tell him I love him and I’ll miss him everyday
    Lord I know he is going to a better place
    But if you are going to take him today, ooooo
    Wait till I get there

    I left my heart lying on the floor as I grab my keys and ran out the door
    Caught a red eye flight back home to my home town
    And as the silver wings touch the midnight sky
    Looking down over the world I realize how small life is
    Like a grain of sand
    Lord time was him wish I had more
    And all I am asking for

    (Chorus)

    I just want to hug his neck just one more time
    And be there right beside him when he closes his eyes

    Ahhh...

    I am all too familiar with those kind of days and I think I have just the songs you need. So prepare yourself to sing loudly and dance in place, who cares who's looking anyway.
