I am considering changing my ordinary thermostat to a programmable thermostat if it will save money. Is it a "do-it-yourself" job?

I currently have a 2 year old Braeburn thermostat and there is nothing wrong with it. Would it be a cost saver to have a programmable thermostat to deactivate the heating/cooling while we are gone during the mid-day? If so, can you recommend a particular product? Would it be easy for me to swap one out?

I've used them in two homes and I would say yes, it really can make a difference, especially if you are not in the house during the day. There is almost always someone in the house these days here, but even then... I turn the heat down at night and then have it fire up 30 min before its needed in the morning.

And when we were mostly out of the house during the day, I know it made a difference.

Can't tell you dollar amounts, I've used one so long I don't know any better, but I won't ever have a house without one now... especially where I am, in the midwest, where there can be big swings in day/night temps, especially in the winter.

Ill let the experts here tell you what to buy. I've used any basic box store programmable that allowed for different weekend and weekday settings.
