I'm 13 and started my period 3 months ago. I wear pads and they always move and the blood goes onto all of my underwear. What can I do? :confused:

I use to have that problem until they came out with sanitary napkins with wings. I also use the long length to cover more area. I know you will laugh at this but I also wear, Hanes Her Way Brief Style underwear better known as "granny panties". I know they are not very attractive but who needs attractiveness during that time of the month I hope this helps.

I'm a bit curious as to why you don't discuss this with your mother.

The variety of pads available to women today is huge. Each manufacturer has several different styles for different times of your period. Many have wings or other features to help catch the flow. Some days you will need more absorption than others.

What you might consider doing is writing to the major pad manufacturers, explain that you are new to your period and ask for samples of their various types of pads so you can judge which suits you best. Otherwise, just experiment with different ones until you find what works best for you.

Telling or or asking her where her mother is can be the very best advice, girls are often scared or worried to discuss common things, with their parents, And this is often the first place they should go. And it is not responsiblie for us to be talking to teen girls giving them advice that does not include to talk to one of our parents. Assuming there is a problem with the parent is a lot less likely than assuming there is a caring parent who just is not aware.
It may be good for a new member to understand that they are not aware of many of the factors and should not attack other members without knowledge of what they are doing

When I first started having periods, I borrowed a pad from my mom. Then I climbed onto my horse... Eeeewuhuhuhuh. Tampons for me, with pads added on heavy days. Sitting on a mattress that both moves and leaks is a crazy idea. Now I wear thong underwear, nothing moves around. Talk to your mom or the nurse at school. They have had periods too and will be happy to give you ideas.

Hey this happens to most of us so your not alone! :)
I don't really know what you can do to stop this.. wearing tampons helps
Just soak your underwear in COLD soapy water (hot water kind of 'cooks' the blood into the material) and scrub them till most of the stain is out then just chuck them in the washing machine

I don't have the insert from my tampons at the moment---but isn't there a higher risk of TSS for teens with tampons? I honestly don't know this... but at the same time, that is one thing that ought to be mentioned with the use of tampons in general.

The advice for wings/extra-long pads is great. Another piece of advice is that if you find yourself leaking often--use a pad designed for heavier flow days.

And if you DO leak--soak your panties in cold soapy water (as mentioned above) and then rinse them before throwing them into the washing machine.

Dark colored panties help, as well.

About and to are two different things. I can understand you not wanting to talk to your mom.
My mom made it impossible to feel comfortable discussing things with her.
It is good to find somebody you can turn to like a school nurse or somebody.

Do you have an Aunt, older sister or cousin that you could talk to about this? My advice would be to try tampons that are especially made for teenagers and their bodies, read the instructions carefully and follow them exactly (especially about how long you can leave them in before changing them). If you have any problems you can go to the school nurse or better yet to your family doctor. It would be best if you had a trustworthy adult to talk to, someone who knows you and who you feel comfortable talking to about anything. This can be a confusing time for a girl and it really helps to get advice from someone who's been there. Yea, try using different types of pads but id just use a tampon if I were u, but I know that some girls are scared and stuff to use one and some aren't allowed because of tss and stuff but if you decide to use them than use the ones with the plastic not the cardboard.
