    Can my family sue me
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I was p.o.a for my mother and I have some of the receipts the others were in a box and my son put them out in the trash and I did not know that they were in the box and I paid some of them in cash so what will happen now and my family are very hateful people and they told me they were going to sue can they. So what should I do.She is dead now and my family is asking for the receipts.I did nothing wrong.thank you for the help.

    I doubt there is anything they can do, they will have to prove what you did wrong, not make you prove what you did

    Also at the time of your mothers death, your POA ended, so not it will be up to the person who is handling the estate to decide if the estate wants to review your status and accounting.

    Too many people with POA seem to be doing the job of a guardian , which POA is not meant to be.

    So they will need to prove you did things wrong, but without receitps you can not defend yourself either.
