Also be sure you have antivirus.

Confirm what programs are on your computer at Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

Websites don't access you, you access websites. What symptons do you see that prompt you to claim that a website owner is trying to get into your computer?

But you just said that you don't service your own computers. So what is prompting you to think that someone is remotely trying to access your personal computer? There must be some evidence?

Very often we ask for more information in an effort to help you better. I asked what makes you think someone is accessing your PC. If you explain what is making you think so, then we may be able to tell you, that you are either dreaming or what you can do about it.

XP 2000

My computer had been working very slow and acting weird. Since I posted on the website that I think they have spyware and was not going back there, my computer is working much better. I wonder just what someone with extensive computer knowledge has been doing while using spywear on my computer.

Is it possible to track me to see what websites I am visiting and who I am talking to on the internet?

First there is no such thing as XP 2000. You either have Windows XP or Windows 2000, one or the other. Second, spyware/adware is often the culprit in slow performing PCs. Most spyware/adware is relatively benign. They do track what sites you visit, but such history is not stored someplace other than your PC. Nor does it mean someone is physically getting into your PC and browsing around.

Do you have a spyware utility? If so, run it and clean out the juck, then see how your PC performs.

I was hoping to get some help here so I wouldn't have to bother my brother.

But I have no choice but to bother him. I had been having a real crippy feeling at that website like someone is stalking me and then I just found out yesterday the owner has all sort of extensive knowledge of computers that most people don't.

I had sent the owner an e-mail last week to let him know how I was feeling and he never answered my e-mail.

Since I posted that note over there that I wasn't going back, my computer is working OK now.

If anyone can be of more help let know. I was hoping I could solve this problem without calling my brother.

If I take my computer to a shop, do I have to tell them that I am feeling paranoid and that someone is tracking me? That's only a feeling. I have no facts.

You haven't given any personal details. Even telling us what website it is, wouldn't be a personal detail.

Win XP has a built in firewall. Lookup firewall in Windows Help for how to activate it.

But, again, a spyware utility will help you clean out anything on your system.

Time to do some serious maintenance on your machine:

Here's my usual C&P for cases like this:

When was the last time you did some serious maintenance on your system ?

System maintenance includes:
Defrag
FULL patching
Virus scanning
Spyware scanning
removal of rubish files

Defrag is an inbuilt function in XP.
Open My Computer > Right click C: > Tools Tab and its there.

To make sure everything is running fine run both anti virus and anti spyware apps in normal AND safe modes. (make sure that they are updated first ! ;)) (AVG is good and free AV)
(A couple of good removal tools are Spybot and Adaware)

ALso an on line virus and spyware scanner is Trend Housecall

Just a note: actively running two AV's on one machine can cause problems.
So if you are thinking about it make sure your current one is disabled first.
Same thing applies to online scanners as well.

Removal of junk files is easy with CCleaner a free app that does exactly what

If all this fails then a repair install may be in order:

Basically this installs windows over the top of your current setup.
So you don't loose any information you already have.

This lot should help to resolve your issue.

That is great information. I have done some cleaning up but not to the extent that you do.

My brother is coming ove to check my computer. I'm going to leave it like it is so he can check to see if anyone is fooling with it.


As soon as I get my computer back, I will go over to ccleaner and Microsoft and check the rest of that information.
