In Ireland & Europe (the EU) the mininum rate is €9.00 Depending what the job is, this is for medium/low skill work, England is very much with the EU, so I'd imagine it's the same in England. Cost of living though is very high and a 3br. House in Ireland is €300,000.I hope this gives you an idea.

The average pay according to the Daily Mail (a British newspaper I read on Thursday) it is £24 K a year.
However this is skewed as people who earn > £500 K drag up the average.
The paper said that over 50% of people earn 0 - 10 K a year but I don't believe this is a useful statistic as it doesn't state who in this group are working part time or are stay at home mums etc.

From people I know I'd say £24 k is about right for the average pay.

EDIT But it varies through age, education, experience, type of job, whereabouts in England- London tends to weight salaries with an addition £3K.
