    Basement toilet rough-in
New house with rough-in plumbing in basement. I installed toilet , flushed, it drained slow and bubbled . Also water backed up in shower drain. Is it a vent problem, or did builder block drain for some reason? Bill

A couple of questions bdma6... is the basement supposed to drain by gravity (you know like the rest of the house)... OR... is the basement plumbing piped into an underground ejector basin/pit with a sump pump..? If you find that there is an ejector pit ( will find a cover and probably 2-2" plastic pipes coming out of the basin/pit with an electric cord! ) the drain pipe inside the ejector basin/pit may have a test plug or similar device used for testing the underground plumbing for leaks still inside the end of the pipe (again... inside tank, under cover). IF there is no ejector basin/pit... look for any cleanouts in the floor between the bathroom and the MAIN sewer cleanout for your home... also could be a test plug in the cleanout there... BUT these ideas are really stretching it! Only other thought is what I am sure you are thinking... pipe is clogged/broken/never got connected..? All of which seem pretty unlikely if this is a new home that was inspected... but you never know... as a next to last resort, you could contact the builder and see what he/she thinks... Then if you get nothing from that you may want to hire a rooter service to come in and cable the drain and/or send a camera down the line to see what is going on down the drain pipe. Good luck.

Try a toilet auger but don't push too hard and make sure you turn it a lot. Many rough in jobs get a temporary cap of an oily rag stuffed down the pipe.

I just moved into a house that was built in 1958. I'd like to install a full bath in the basement, but it was not plumbed for a bath. I'm handy with sweating copper pipe joints, so the hot/cold water supply lines won't really be a problem. However, the waste lines are where I do have a few...

Hi experts! I'm planning to add a bathroom in my basement but I'm confused about the existing rough in. I've attached two pictures that show the rough in from two different angles. There is one 3" PVC pipe that is about 17" from the wall so it can be used for the toilet. I'm confused about the...
