    Do you understand the order of operations?

    Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

    P = parenthesis
    E = exponents
    M = Multiplcation
    D = Division
    A = Addition
    S = Subtraction

    In that order.

    So, by this I can help you with your first problem, see if you get the second

    If you multiply everything in the parenthesis by 7, you get

    21-4x

    Now, can you do the second problem?

    That's incorrect. I'm assuming you made a typo but its supposed to be

    21-14x

    And if you have a negative sign on the outside of the equation such as -(3-y) you would multiply every thing by negative one... or reverse the signs inside of the equation so in my example you would have -3+y

    Always think of money. YOur money can only Multiply, divide, add, and subtract Remember the rule of the signs.
    -/-=+
    +/+=+
    -/+=-
    +/-=-

    Some one has already gave you the order of operations acronym.
    That's basic algebra.

    Look at the problem as if it's the answer and you have to give the question.

    For example, 21-14x
    what is another way to say this? 7(3-2x)

    How many ways to say 100.
    10*10
    25*4
    0+100

    Get it.
    Find comfort, Math is only a logical language. Don't fear it.
