    Disability and back taxes
    Hi

My husband is looking at being put on disability. However, we are concerned because he is self employed and we owe back taxes. How does this effect us in filing for disability?

Normally, disability payments CANNOT be garnished.

However, if the disability payments are only part of his overall income, then the IRS may be able to garnish them if they can show that it will not lower his standard of living below the poverty level.
