    Breaking lease in California
    Hi!
I have a year lease for my apartment, which will be over on August 2008. I live in one-bedroom with my husband, but only my name is on the lease since he does not have good credit when I signed the lease and we had plan to put his name on the lease later. (The property manager knows that he has been staying here all the time.)

Now his teenager daughter is planning to come to CA to live with us, and we are going to need 2 bedroom for sure. She is planning to move here around the middle of Feb. Are there anything we can do without breaking lease, or losing all deposit and more money?
Is it possible for us to move in to 2 bedroom of the same apartment complex or any another apt under the same property management? What is the best way to deal with this situation? PLEASE, PLEASE, advise me.

Talk to the people in the leasing department and see if they will let you move into a 2-bedroom with no (or few) penalties. This is really up to the complex you live in, they don't HAVE to let you move elsewhere.

If you move somewhere outside of the complex (or they won't let you move to another unit) you will have to break the lease (or have the daughter find other housing), which depending on what your lease says, can get ugly and expensive. You can also consider subletting, if that's allowed in your lease. Your best bet is to talk to them NOW and see what, if anything they are willing to do for you.

    Good luck.
