For a while now I have been considering covering the front wall of my home in a "graffiti art". I have a design, the cans, everything I need. However I was discussing this with a good friend and he told me that the local council would not allow this.
The wall I want to paint is solely on my property and the design would/should not be offensive to anyone. It does face the street and passing cars/cyclists/and so on would be able to see it.
So my question is, will I be aloud to do this and if so will I need a council permit or something similar?

courthouse or zoning commission depending on your location. I'd start at the courthouse or local authority such as city offices etc, and inquire about local ordinances related to painting the outside of your home. You might run into problems with neighbors and others who may feel that you are decreasing the value of their property, and you might also be accused of inviting an undesired element into the neighborhood? Just be careful what ever you do. I'm not criticizing the graffiti at all, I view some of it as extremely fascinating art, but not everyone shares my opinions... You are contemplating a very bold move. It might draw competition from others to "express" themselves on property that is near yours, and perhaps not belonging to the painters... Some graffiti is used to mark the turf of a gang, and yours might be seen as provoking something?

The artwork/graffiti I am considering doing is not black marker tagging, nor is it basic big throws(bubble writing). It would be a wildstyle piece (that would be read-able to few) along with "portrait picture" of a female face. To most it would apear to be a mixture of colors/patterns rather than "trainstation graffiti", I just wanted to clear that up.

I was recently employed by a small buisnesses in my area to paint a mural over the entire wall in order to stop "unsightly graffiti". As I have a very large wall (27m Long x 10m High) and is constantly being covered by local gang tags, and basic throw ups. So I am also wondering if it is possibe to get persmision to do this to on residential walls?

If you have already been employed by small businesses in your area to paint a mural over the entire wall in order to stop "unsightly graffiti," then I would think by virtue of them asking you to do such a thing, then it would appear that you already have built up some credibility for the art that you do. If so, then I think that city officials of whatever kind as have already been mentioned, might be more likely to grant you permission to do what you want to do to your own property.

If what you have stated above is true, and you haven't had city officials getting on your case about removing or covering up the existing graffiti, then I think that it would also be more reason to believe that you would be granted such permission to decorate your wall as you are wanting to.
