    Sideways Water Heater?
My water heater is in my crawl space. It is electric. There is only room for a "lowboy" water heater and they max out at 50 gallons.

I was wondering if I could mount a bigger electric water heater sideways or on a slant?

    Thanks,

    Ron

    Hi Ron,
"I was wondering if I could mount a bigger electric water heater sideways or on a slant?"

Not to good a idea since the basic law of a water heater is that hot water raises from the botton element to the top of the tank where it's kept to temperature by the top element. Your best shot for a water heater that doesn't take up too much room is a on demand insta-hot water heater. They are pricey but will outlast a regular water heater long enough to make up the price differential. If you're interested in them just click on back and I'll give you a site to check out. Watch your clearances. I looked into putting one in my crawl space next to my 80,000 BTU furnace. I didn't have the clearance needed. An electric might work, needing less clearance. My house wiring won't support an electric heater.
