Hi,

I have a Concord 90 upflow gas furnace that is about 5 years old. It just decided over the weekend to stop working (after a couple of weeks of being turned on), right in the coldest of winter (-20 to -25C).

The cycle goes well just until the flames come on. Thereafter, it lasts only for few seconds before a clicking sound comes on, leading to the system turning off itself. It tries for 3 more times after that, then it locks out. The light indicator blinks on a 6+6 code series. Unfortunately, there is no explanation for 6+6 code, not on the furnace instruction site, not on the internet...

Similar episode happened last year, but I managed to get it back on functioning after cleaning the air filter and the flame sensor. This same trick is not the solution this year...

Would any expert be able to guide me as to what could be wrong here? I called many heating contractors in the area (Edmonton, AB, Canada) and nobody seems to be familiar with this carrier around here. Supplying parts is also going to be a bit of a problem, short of me ordering online from the US. I am certainly in BIG troubles now! :eek:

If it were that cold in y area I would get it going ASAP. Call a serviceman. Most furnaces work oin the same principle and once the problem is found it is possible another part from a different brand will work in fixing it. If no at least you know which part to order. If that furnace is not available in that region how did it get there?

The Conventional Gas Furnace
The gas furnace is an appliance looking like a large box that does the following:

• takes in cold air,
• cleans it with an air filter,
• heats it up with a gas burner using a steel heat exchanger,
• distributes the warm air with a blower motor through your home's ductwork

The heated air then cools down in your home's various rooms and returns to the furnace through return air grills and ductwork.
The cold returning air enters back through the air filter into the furnace to complete another heating loop.

Sometimes there is a humidifier mounted on the furnace or the return air ductwork.

Furnaces come in different efficiencies measured in AFUE.
