Can some one tell me about aprxia. Does this mean my son is handi capped ?

Apraxia is an impairment in the ability to perform purposeful acts or to manipulate objects in the absence or loss of motor power sensation or coordination.

There are 4 different forms of Apraxia.

Ideational: Which means that there is an an impairment caused by a loss of the perception of the use of an object.

Motor: An inability to use an object or perform a task although it is understood how to perform the object or use the task.

Amnestic: An inability to perform functions because of an inability to remember directions when told how to perform a task

AND

Apraxia of Speech: An inability to program the position of speech muscles and the sequence of muscle movements necessary to produce understandable speech.

Which one was your son diagnosed with?

Not knowing his level of impairment I would say that he may very well be considered speech impaired (sorry, I don't like the word handicapped). Is this permanent? Depends on the cause. If it's acquired, then most likely he will recover spontaneously. If it is developmental, then he will need speech therapy.

Well, now, I see your son is only 2 1/2 years old. Correct?

Give him time... speech will come. This is not unusual for a 2 year old. Many children this age just take it all in, no reason to talk yet, and then BAM, one day they start spewing out paragraphs.

Have you had his hearing tested? I would start there.
