How to turn on heat (gas boiler)
    Hi,
I'm trying to turn on my heat for the first time (new house) and it's not working.

The thermostat has been flipped on and set above the current temp.

The gas boiler makes noise and it's plenty warm in the boiler room.

The heat registers have no heat whatsoever.

It's a hot water (baseboard) system, so I'm getting the impression it might be a lack of water flowing through the boiler.

Oh, and my gas water heater has worked all summer. (It's a separate appliance with it's own water lines.)

    Any ideas?

((I'm trying to turn on my heat for the first time (new house) and it's not working.)) If it is a new house it should be under warranty.

If not there are many things that could cause the problem of not working.

Water pressure in the system to low.
    Air in system.
    Bad pump.
    Bad pump controller.
    Water logged expansion tank.
These are just a few items. If you do not know what you are doing with a boiler I suggest you contact someone that does so they can pay a visit to you home and sort the problems out

Re-phrase: it is a new house *for me* -- just boughtthis summer -- it's from 1960 and the boiler looks to be from the '80s.

Could be as simple as the pump was shut of somewhere. Check the breakers, and check for voltage at the pump.
