    Puppy food
    Is it true that as my puppy gets older, he should be fed LESS food? This question seems so stupid, as I would assume that the bigger a dog gets the more he needs to eat. But I just read something about the former.

    The amount you feed your dog depends on its weight. Look on the side of the can or bag it will give you an estimate of how much cans or such to feed your dog at a meal.

    I have found that as their growth slows at about 7-8 months, they may need a little less to maintain good body condition. Large breeds and others prone to joint problems, need an early switch to adult chow to slow growth. That along with keeping the puppy lean, gives the puppy more time to develop sturdy joints.     Think about how teenagers eat compared to adults.

    So a fat, over weight dog need more food? The package charts are only a starting point.

    No I was simply pointing out the chart helps to make sure you don't underfeed your dog or over feed your dog. But factors like exercise and health would affect how much they should take in which then you don't follow the chart.

    Labman the charts aren't made for fat dogs, they are made for healthy dogs. You should no that of all people. A fat dog would have a totally different chart just like my food chart is different than another 15 year old's who weighs a lot more than me
