Ok, do you want a good policy that will cover most things,

Or do you want a low cost one,

There is not both, first the best deal will be going to work for a company that offers health benefits, not only do they pay part of the cost but you will get better benefits.

You will not get the same type of benefits though private insurance that you will normally get though a place of work,

You will find that the deductables will be normally higher and almost always you are going to have deductables on your drug coverage.

There are some companies such as American National that has some great low cost major medicals if you take a 1000 to 3000 deductable and
There are companies like United American that offer great low cost hospital only coverage.

Please be wary of some companies, I know one that sells insurance for small business, and they basically lie that they sell major medical when is it merely a hosptial policy with a small drug and doctor riders on them.

Also private insurance is not going to insure medical problems you already have, so for example if you already have high blood pressure in most states, they will not cover that.

Every state is different. Find a local broker to advise you. There are no additional costs for the service.

The best way is to call local insurance agencies and ask for a quote. Its all determined on what type of coverage you'd need, and for how many people. They could also help you set up a payment schedule (monthly, 2x yearly, yearly)

Look for discounts through the agency that you have auto-insurance through or home owner/renter's insurance. Those will sometimes also offer health insurance at a better rate.
