    Work from Home
I am interested in typing from home. Are there any companies that can assist with obtaining job assignments? Of course, I am looking for one that is honest and not going to be a scam.

I used to be looking for the same thing. Unfortunately, everything I found requires money up front, and that has SCAM written all over it. You should never pay money to someone to give you a job, you should be able to obtain a job on your own without paying, with your qualifications and skills.

Since just about everyone has a computer, or knows someone who has one, typing from home jobs aren't really needed anymore. I do believe that Data Entry can still be done from home. I have Googled it for you : data entry jobs from home - Google Search

Just remember, be aware of people asking for money up front. Never pay someone to give you a job! :)

Your best bet is to post an ad at area community and 4-year colleges, high schools, senior centers, tech schools, etc. for typing term papers and letters. Of course, you could charge more if you are willing to proofread and edit. (If I were you, I wouldn't actually write the paper for students since that could get both you and them into trouble with the school.)

If you do this, be sure you know how each paper's formatting should be and what style guide should be used.

I did this for a while when I was home all day raising kids. If you can get enough business, especially word-of-mouth referrals, it could be fairly lucrative.

Good luck with whatever you do!

Are you familiar with medical transcription? Those are competitive positions and you'll find job postings on major health care sites. Though, most will require that you already own your own equipment.

Use Monster.com or another similar site to get started, or just Google the names of local businesses... their sites will probably post job listings.

    Good luck!

I personally know women who have tried medical transcription, working at home. One had been a transcriptionist at a hospital years ago and knew medical terminology already. Another had to take an online course in medical terminology before any site would hire her. Both women found out there is little work in this field, since the field is flooded with transcriptionists. Definitely check out work possibilities before you commit to spending money on a course. Often sites demand that you have real-world medical experience. Hospitals prefer to hire at-home transcriptionists who have already worked for them in the hospital office.

I agree! The medical side is a competitive field--when I was looking for that work during college the jobs were there but not easy to get. I find that the smaller med offices will hire at-home transcriptionists more often in order to cut costs. Our office has 3 at-home and 1 on-site coordinator.
I'm sure it depends on the area too. Though with the popularity of email, its becoming more common to get work from around the country.. and around the world. (Several offices in our facility send their transcription to India)
