Be willing to get the foot in the door by starting on the bottom and working toward the top. That has worked for me while it may not have worked for anyone else.

You could try a temp service.
They usually have really good companies looking for good employees.
If you turn out to be a good worker, these companies usually hire you on as a permanent employee and your pay rate goes up.
I've known several people who got great jobs with really good companies this way.

There are a lot of job listings online, with Monster and Corporate websites, and other job listing sites, but definitely don't forget about the paper. According to our career development guy at school, companies can post a job listing online for pennies, and sometimes they do just to see what kind of response they get (he said he's actually called them as a recruiter before to ask if it was a real job, and lots of companies say no), but you know they're serious about finding a candidate if they post in the paper, because they have to give up a little money to run the ad for a week or two.

If you go to an interview, never say anything negative about previous employers, either.
